Frequently asked questions

What is WHOIS?

WHOIS is the public record of who registered a domain, through which registrar, and when it was created and expires. RDAP is its modern, structured successor that registries now use.

Why are some contact details hidden?

Most registrars redact personal data for privacy (GDPR and similar laws). You will often see a contact form link instead, which forwards your message to the registrant.

Why can't I see data for some extensions?

A few country-code registries publish no WHOIS or RDAP data at all, only a website. When that happens Domainat tells you and links to the registry.

Is the domain available?

If no registry record exists, Domainat shows the domain as available. Register it with any accredited registrar before someone else does.

Is Domainat free?

Yes — every lookup and tool is free, with no account needed.

What other tools are there?

SSL certificate, website redirects and security headers, DNS lookup and propagation, email security (SPF, DMARC), IP information, live ping, traceroute and an IDN converter for Arabic domains.
